Sand Recovery Training - Basic to Advanced

Date and time:  9:00am to 4:00pm, Saturday 9th May

Trip Standard:  This is a Training day.

Description:   Do you want to become a confident sand, beach and dune driver?  Ever see a car bogged on a beach and worried that might one day be you, the tide slowly rising along with your panic levels, no phone reception, Elon's had a sook so Starlink doesn't work, your hope evaporating into the advancing brine?

On this course we are going to cover basic to advanced sand recovery, in real-life beach and dunes boggings using real-world scenarios based on my years of experience of recovering random people I find, and believe me they are creative.  And we will actually get bogged, you don't learn anything by pretending a car is immoblised.  We will also do a u-turn on an 'impossible' (according to Mr J. Random Boggee-McBogster in an LC200) beach.

Once we're finished you'll have handled more difficult sand recoveries than anything you'll find in a desert.  We will cover self-recovery, kinetic, winch then show how Influencer Techniques 101 don't work #views #OMGmate.  And a practical demonstration of the effect of tyre pressures and ESC

No prior experience required

Accommodation: campsites in Southend or surrounds

Weather:   Yes.  Going regardless

Equipment:  minimum - sand flag, tyre pressure gauge, air compressor, kinetic recovery rope, 2x traction ramps, preferably 4, UHF radio handheld, not just in-car as we will be largely outside the cars and that means dress to impress the seagulls.  I would like at least one participant to have a power winch and 20m+ of extension rope, and everyone needs to have a sense of humour.

Maps and Reference Material:  Any map covering Southend/Canudra including the official Parks SA map.

Additional Equipment required:  Clothing for windy, wet and cold conditions.  Morning tea and lunch will be at the beach – byo thermos, etc.

Accommodation:  campsites in Southend or surrounds

Fuel:  Fuel is available in Beachport (20 Km away) or Millicent (25 Km away).  There may also be fuel at the general Store in Southend

Distance:  Southend is approximately 530 km from Melbourne.

Duration: 1 day.  Saturday, full day.  Campfire and stories that night, coffee run to Beachport next morning, then you can go find some random strangers to recover, then home.

Convoy limit: 10 vehicles

Meeting arrangements:  We will meet at Southend General Store, 0800 https://maps.app.goo.gl/iriHETHNRaQJf2ji9 and depart at 9.00am.  If you plan to get coffee beforehand then you will need to arrive a little earlier.  We will aim to finish about 4.00pm at Southend.

Club Guest Registration policy:  It is club policy in regard to insurance cover that if a member brings any non-members on the trip they must be registered and have paid the required fee as Temporary Members BEFORE the event.
