ANZAC Remembrance trip into Wonnagatta

Date and time: 10:00am, Friday 24th April to 4:00pm Sunday 26th April

NB: This trip is being organised by the Land Rover Owners Club (LROC) who, have kindly invited us to join them.

Description: Please contact your trip leader if you are unsure of any of the following requirements for this trip.

This year ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday, so the plan is:

Friday 24 April
Head into Wonnangatta from Mansfield, Licola, Dargo and Myrtleford

Saturday 25 April
Dawn Service
Day trips
Long Table Dinner

Sunday 26 April
Exit Wonnangatta

Once again, we have been invited to join the Land Rover Owners Club (LROC) who are arranging this weekend will be conducting a dawn service on Saturday morning.

We will run several optional day trips around the valley on Saturday or people can just hang around camp or explore the nearby homestead ruins and cemetery.

We plan to have a long table BYO dinner and table on Saturday night (weather permitting).

We will then make our way out of the Valley on Sunday for home.

Equipment: Good off-road tyres (All Terrain, 60 profile recommended as a minimum), UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club), a well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent), good ground clearance (200mm recommended as a minimum), recovery points, standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel. Drivers must have completed the RRCV club training or equivalent

Additional Equipment: Camping gear food and drinking water for 2 days / 1 night in the bush. Clothing for wet and cold conditions. Morning tea and lunches will be in the bush each day – byo simple, “on the move” lunches and morning teas (byo thermos).

No camper trailers, pets or firearms

Weather: Alpine environment, potentially cold and wet. Review the Alpine weather forecast leading up to the trip and bring appropriate clothing, footwear and camping gear.

Maps and Reference Material:

Fuel: a full tank ex Traralgon or Mansfield

Distance: Approx. distance from the CBD to the trip start at Traralgon is 150 Km and from Traralgon to the Wonnangatta Valley is 190 Km.

Approx. distance from the CBD to the trip start at Mansfield is 200 Km and from Mansfield to the Wonnangatta Valley is 130 Km

Day trips in the Wonnangatta Valley are approx, 100 Km long, consisting of high and low range driving.

Duration: 2 1/2 days

Convoy limit: 10 vehicles

Meeting arrangements: There may be 2 options for entry into the Wonnangatta Valley (which will be determined by road conditions, numbers of vehicles and availability of trip leaders), i.e.

Meet in in Traralgon (location TBA) and depart at 10.00am.
Meet in Mansfield (location TBA) and depart at 10:00 am

If you plan to get coffee beforehand then you will need to arrive a little earlier. We will aim to finish about 4.00pm back in Traralgon of Mansfield.

Club Guest Registration policy: It is club policy in regard to insurance cover that if a member brings any non-members on the trip they must be registered and have paid the required fee as Temporary Members BEFORE the event.

i.e. non- members can no longer register on the day with the trip leader.

Also if a non-member wishes to bring their own vehicle, the member inviting the non-member must contact the trip leader for approval to bring the vehicle. Such approval will take into account skills of the driver, suitability of the vehicle and whether or not a place within the convoy limit is available for a non-member's vehicle.
