Royston Range and Rubicon

Date and time:  9:00am - 5.00 pm Saturday 27 February 2021

Description:  We will be exploring tracks and historic sites in the Royston Range and Rubicon Valley.

We will start by heading along some easy forest roads north of Marysville before turning towards Keppel Hut. From here we will head north and east through Rubicon State Forest crossing the Royston River to ascend Mt Bullfight and explore the tracks and views of the Royston Range and Snobs Creek areas. We will finally head west towards the Rubicon Historic Reserve to view some of the historic sites before exiting via Rubicon to Thornton.

There are toilets at Keppel Hut and at camping areas close to Rubicon Power Station.

The exact route will be subject to track and weather conditions.

Weather:  Whilst it is summertime, weather can be unpredictable so bring appropriate clothing and footwear for all conditions.  

Equipment:  Vehicles are to have low range 4WD capability with good all-terrain tyres, good ground clearance, UHF radio equipped, and rated front and rear recovery points. Usual recovery gear must be carried with a minimum of two shackles and a snatch strap, with dampener,  rated for your vehicle.

Trip Standard:  Easy to Medium (Green-Blue).

Fuel:  A full tank out of Marysville. 

Distance:  The total estimated route distance is approximately 100 km, with nearly all being low range driving .

Duration: 1 day

Convoy limit: 10 vehicles 

Meeting arrangements:  

We will meet at the Marysville Bakery for a briefing and in good time to depart at 9am on Saturday morning.
