Mt Disappointment Exploratory Night Trip

Description:  This will be an exploratory night trip to Mount Disappointment. We will be starting from Broadford, where we shall meet at 7:00 pm to group and have a quick briefing. We will then head up to Murchison Lookout. Then onto Wild Dog Gully Road. After that we will go to Sailor Jack Road. We will also try and find some of the harder tracks at Mount Disappointment. The aim will be to finish the night on ‘the ladder’ and then head home through Heathcote Junction. 

Weather:  Should be warm this time of year, but this is Melbourne...Check the forecast and bring appropriate clothing. 

Equipment:  Well-maintained vehicle with low range (or equivalent, good clearance (200mm recommended as a minimum), Must have a good set of all terrain tyres (mud tyres preferred). Recovery points, standard recovery gear including dampener, rated snatch strap and shackles, shovel and UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club). 

Additional Equipment required:  Head torch and a good flashlight will also come in handy. A good set of aftermarket driving lights or lightbar will be essential. 

Please also bring food and water/drink as we shall stop for a late supper.  

Trip Standard:  Hard to very hard depending on weather. This is an exploratory trip.  

Fuel:  A full tank from Melbourne will be enough.

Distance:  Broadford is approximately 1 to 1:30 Hr and 100 km from Melbourne.  

Duration: 1 evening.  (This is one night of driving, not a camping trip). 

Convoy limit: 5 vehicles 

Meeting arrangements:  We will meet at Broadford Train Station car park (High Street, Broadford) at 7:00 pm.  If you plan to get coffee beforehand then you will need to arrive a little earlier.  We will aim to finish about 1.00am on Sunday morning at Heathcote .
