=====  COMPLYING WITH COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS ======

There are hoops that we need to jump through to comply with the restrictions, although these are relaxing.

As part of your registration, we need to know who will be in your car. The people in your car must live with you to comply with social distancing rules.

COVID-19 - ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS

These additional restrictions have been put in place to confirm with the Government regulation. It's the trip leader's responsibility to ensure they are adhered to and you will be asked to confirm each one during registration. So it's more important than ever to follow the Trip Leader's instructions.

  • All passengers are your family members (partner or child, in same household)
  • As the club member, you are responsible to ensure your passengers are aware of and follow the restrictions.
  • Everyone must respect social distancing, of 1.5m, from other members - particularly during:
     -  Breaks - briefings, tea breaks, lunch breaks, etc
     -  Recoveries - stay in your car where possible, unless asked to help.
  • You cannot attend If you are feeling unwell, been in close contact with anyone suspected of having the virus, or recently returned from overseas
  • Bring hand-sanitiser along with your normal kit.
  • There may be no access to public toilets or other facilities (toilets should be open by then)
  • We also suggest that you use the COVIDSafe app.

All passengers must be named for tracking purposes. Use the Comment section of registration to list all people in your car.

IMPORTANT NOTE -

The number of people on the trip must remain within the prevaling restrictions or the organiser and participants might recieve large fines, as well as greater chance of infection.  In this case, there's not enough cars to reach this maximum number of people, so the number of cars is the limiting factor.

===== End of COVID-19 Restrictions Section  = Enjoy the trip ======

Big Desert SFP and northern Murray-Sunset NP

Description:   The object of the trip is to explore some of the tracks in the Big Desert State Forest Park, and the northern parts of the Murray-Sunset National Park next to the Murray River.

On Saturday we intend to depart from Wonga Camp site and travel along Milmed Rock Track and on up to the Big Desert State Forest and do a loop around the Big Desert SFP before camping in one of the camp sites there. On Sunday we plan to head out through the Big Desert SFP out to the Mallee Hwy and into Murray-Sunset NP. Going via the Pink Lakes we will head north west around the park before heading up to the northern section of the park which lies on the Murray where we will find some where to camp for the night. On Monday we will wind our way east along the Murray to Mildura – the going is apparently easy and scenic. We’ll finish in Mildura early Monday afternoon. You will need enough fuel for 700-800km of easy sand driving.

Victoria’s deserts are located in the north east of the state on the border with South Australia some 450km north west of Melbourne. The drive to Wonga camping ground in Wyperfeld NP takes approximately 5 hours from Melbourne.

The camping grounds have drop toilets with no washing facilities, potable water, or showers – bring adequate water for drinking a cooking, and plan to cook on a fuel stove (though we’ll almost certainly have a fire)

The travel distances are relatively long and so we will stop for morning coffee, lunch, and afternoon tea.

Please note there is no mobile phone reception once we have entered the park sections.

If this is too full we will find alternative free camp sites within the Big Desert State Forest: Cactus Bore, Coburns Pines campsiteRed Gums campsite and Blue Gums campsite.

There are no facilities at these camping areas so campers are required to be self-sufficient.
