Day 2 - scenic/social trip

This is day 2 of a 2-day weekend - separated to allow for registration of individual days. If you wish to attend both days, you will need to register for both.

Sunday we will mostly be a scenic drive / social trip visiting local attractions such as Lake Goldsmith Steam & Vintage Rally, Stockyard Hill, Mt Cole Reservoir a few local wineries on the way then stopping for lunch at the Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyard.

Weather:

Cold and possibly wet and windy so ensure you bring appropriate clothing.

Trip Standard: Easy - 

Sunday we will mostly be a scenic drive / social trip visiting local attractions such as Lake Goldsmith Steam & Vintage Rally, Stockyard Hill, Mt Cole Reservoir a few local wineries on the way then stopping for lunch at the Mount Langi Ghiran Vineyard.

Equipment:

UHF radio (or one borrowed from the club.  Suitable for All Wheel Drive and High Range 4WD.  Can be low clearance with single range and road tyres.

Camping/Accomodation:

Middle Creek Camping Area

  • There are 30 unpowered sites in a large open area, all of which accommodate both caravans and tents. Each site holds a maximum of 6 people.
  • Non-flush toilets, fireplaces, picnic tables and a picnic shelter are provided.
  • Campfires only allowed in designated fireplaces - supply your own wood.

Ferntree Camping Area

  • Ferntree Camping Area is suitable for tents only. The five individual sites are small and each is in a secluded bush setting. Each site has its own fireplace and picnic table. Campers should be self-sufficient and bring drinking water and firewood. Non-flush toilets are located in the adjacent day visitor area.

Bailes Camping Area

  • Bailes Camping Area contains 5 unpowered sites suitable for both tents and caravans.  Non-flush toilets, communal fireplaces and picnic tables are provided. Campers should be self-sufficient and bring drinking water and firewood.

Food & Water: Suggest bring your own morning tea, coffee (thermos) and light snacks.

Fuel: Full tank ex Melbourne, fuel available in Beaufort (Caltex).

Distances:

Melbourne to Beaufort – 163 km (approx. 1 hour 50mins)

  • Ararat to Beaufort – 45 km (approx. 32min via the Western Hwy A8)
  • Ballarat to Beaufort – 51 km (approx. 38min via Western Hwy A8 & M8)

Scenic drive – approx. 110 km

Duration: 1 day (separate registration required for the previous day)

Convoy Limit: 10 vehicles
