BLAZE AID- BUSH FIRE RELIEF
Bunyip area
3, 4 and/or 5 May 2019
Description:
Members and friends of the RRCV will be volunteering to assist with Bush Fire relief in fire effected areas of Gippsland, working with the Blaze Aid organisation. Area in which assistance will be given is Bunyip. Blaze Aid is coordinating the Bunyip and Yinnar areas. The Toyota Landcruiser Club of Victoria (TLCCV) is co-ordinating the Tonimbuk area under the Blaze Aid umbrella. Blaze Aid will be identifying and co-ordinating the relief area for the RRCV, once our volunteer numbers are known and advised to Blaze Aid.
Club members will be involved with work allocated by Blaze Aid whilst working to assist farmers and land owners as required with removal of fencing, cleaning up debris etc. Approximately 200 km of fencing has already been removed with another 400 km still to be removed through the work of the volunteers.
Blaze Aid will provide the necessary PPE for all volunteers. Members should wear strong work clothes and boots and be prepared for any inclement weather.
All volunteers are insured for accidents through the Blaze Aid Volunteer Insurance policy noting however that this policy does NOT include ambulance cover. Blaze Aid strongly recommends that volunteers have, or take out ambulance cover.
Blaze Aid is coordinating the volunteers and will have work plans in place and fully equipped trailers all set up and ready to go.
All meals are provided for volunteers but volunteers need to bring their own snacks. Often the farmers will provide lunch for the volunteers, otherwise lunches will be made up before leaving the base.
Breakfast is from 7:00am each day followed by a mandatory safety talk at 7:30am. Departure to the farms by convoy will be at 7.45 am. The same arrangements apply for both Saturday and Sunday , for those that may wish to attend for only the one day. Members should plan to arrive the evening before the day they are attending.
We will be based at the Bunyip Recreational Reserve. There is plenty of space at the site to bring a caravan, swag or tent. All sites have toilets and hot showers. Power availability will be limited with mobile phone coverage possibly not very good in some areas. Swags can be set up in the Scout Hall in the reserve. We will display our banner.
Members are welcome to bring friends to work as volunteers with our club but will need to register any friends as temporary members on the club website. As a community service, the $15 temporary membership fee will be paid by the club. Please indicate in your registration in the comments box the names of any friends you may be bringing.
If any members wishes to work with Blaze Aid at these sites for a few days before or after the weekend, then please indicate that in the comments box in your registration such that the duration of the event will then be extended to cover the period that members are working. Indications are that some members may take up this option.
