Robert Pepper’s 4wd Treks Close To Melbourne – TREK 3 - Beyond Yarra Glen: Yarra Glen To Whittlesea

Apologies for the short notice for this mid-week trip - we would like to get a trial Robert Pepper book trips underway before Xmas.

Description:   This trek is unusual because it makes very little use of state forests or parks. Instead the trek takes the scenic route to St Andrews and then turns north east to Kinglake Central via the steep Bald Spur Road affording great views of Melbourne From the Frank Thomson Reserve the trek turns into the steep, unsealed Beale Ave, before following some real back roads and proceeds to the Yan Yean Reservoir Reserve and onto Whittlesea.
Weather:  Should be mild but it’s Melbourne weather ! So be prepared for anything !
Equipment:  No special equipment should be needed as the trek is on black top and well maintained dirt roads. UHF radio needed or one borrowed from the Club.
Trip Standard:  Easy. Some tracks marked ‘4WD Recommended’ but that is due to the gradient, not so much the terrain. All roads and tracks are suitable for all AWDs.
Fuel:  a full tank ex Melbourne.  Fuel and supplies available Yarra Glen and Whittlesea.
Distance:  Approx. distance from Yarra Glen to Whittlesea is 60 Km of mainly high range driving.
Duration: 1 day

Convoy limit:  6 vehicles

Meeting arrangements:  We plan to meet at McKenzie Reserve, Melba Hwy, Yarra Glen at  9:00am. We will aim to finish about 4.00pm in Whittlesea

Trip Leaders:  Peter Nissen (Trainee Trip Leader)  0418 562 549.  Graeme Carter (Trek Manager) 0400 195 932
