SUMMARY:Cape York
LOCATION:Cape York
DESCRIPTION:https://www.rangeroverclub.org.au/event-2895434\n\nCape York \n Description: This trip will leave Port Douglas on the 15th June and travel to some of the iconic places in the Cape York area. We plan to see the sights of the Cape rather than attempt "car breaking" tracks. There will be opportunities to observe many of the challenging aspects of some tracks\, but it is up to individuals if they wish to attempt them or take the bypass tracks.\n We will leave Port Douglas and travel to Cooktown via the Bloomfield track\, then to Weipa where we will spend a couple of nights. Then we will drive parts of the Old Telegraph Track\, spending some time at a couple of iconic spots. From there we will make our way to the Loyalty Beach and use that as a base from which to visit some of the points of interest nearby. We also plan to spend some time at Punsand Bay and visit the Tip before returning via the Northern Bypass and Peninsular Development roads to Port Douglas. \n The itinerary is fairly flexible at the moment so we may stay additional days or visit other points of interest at places that appeal to the group\n Weather: Tropical. Bring appropriate clothing and footwear.\n Equipment: This trip will be suited to confident 4WDrivers with some experience. Your vehicle will need to be equipped with a UHF radio\, good all terrain tyres\, low range\, 4WD and have reasonable clearance (at least 200mm recommended). We shall discuss remote area travel spares when we know which make of vehicles are on the trip. The vehicles will have to be in first class mechanical condition so a detailed service and check by mechanics who understand the rigours of remote area travel is required. the rough corrugated roads in the Cape will be hard on suspension systems and tyres in particular. Trip Standard: Medium but with probable lengthy stretches of bad corrugations. \n Fuel: Fuel is available at various roadhouses along the way so there are no requirements to carry additional fuel . \n Distance: Approx. return distance from Port Douglas is 2500 Km of unsealed road driving. \n Duration: 22+ days approx.\n \n Convoy limit: 6 vehicles \n Meeting arrangements: We plan to meet in Port Douglas on 15/Jun. Details to be confirmed Trip Leaders: Graeme & Lyn Carter\, Malcolm and Ruthje Mullis \n\n
