A Joint Trip with LROCV, Pajero Club and the VMLCG
Travelling via Lake Buffalo, Goldie Spur, Buckland Valley, Barry Mountains and the Twins Jeep Track we will base camp on the Dargo High Plains. Early the next morning we will travel to the start of the Mt Feathertop walk at Diamantina Hut near Mt Hotham. With good hiking boots and camera, a backpack with food and drink for the day and emergency cold weather clothing, jacket and hat we will undertake the long walk to Mt Feathertop (1922m) along the undulating Razorback and return. This is a 21km walk if you walk the full distance. The Mt Feathertop walk is one of the most scenic walks in the high country with long, uninterrupted, mountain filled views in every direction (Sandra Bardwell 1979). It is back to base camp for the night for a well earned rest and then on ANZAC Day we will travel via Grant, MacMillan's Spur, Talbotville, Kingswill Bridge and Waterford to rejoin the Princes Highway near Stratford.
This trip is not suitable for camper trailers or trailers. No dogs are permitted as we will be travelling in National Parks.
Meet at 9.00am on Saturday morning at Myrtleford (place to be advised) with full fuel tanks. Next fuel is at Waterford, approximately 260kms.
The trip distance Melbourne to Melbourne is 850kms.
We will be bush camping on the Dargo High Plains at an altitude of 1,550m. Be prepared for variable alpine weather so bring suitable clothing and camping gear. There is always the possibility of high winds. snow and rain at any time of the year in this area. Bring all food and water requirements for the 3 days.
A good level of fitness is required and appropriate gear, food and water provisions and first aid pack are to be carried and worn by all walking participants.
There are various walking books by John and Monica Chapman and John Siseman which give further details of the Mt Feathertop walk and bushwalking requirements.
