Lerderderg State Park lies to the west of Melbourne. It nestles in amongst the hills of the upper Lerderderg River – gold was discovered there in 1854. Throughout the forest messmate and stringy barks dominate the scene, while many other smaller wattles and shrubs vie for a position. Animal life is never startling but one may see koalas, grey kangaroos and swamp wallabies along with a good range of birds.
Trip Standard – medium – may become hard in the wet.
