Vicky and Ken Birch have received a request for support from the High Country Huts Association for a working bee on the March long weekend. This may be of interest to members not going to Dargo. If you are able to help, contact Michael Vanderzalm of VHCHA for more information.
The details:
"I have spoken to Parks Vic regarding completing the works we attempted to conduct earlier in January 2008 and we have the go ahead for the weekend of March 8,9 and 10th. That's Labor Day long weekend though.......Could you please send this email to members please.
The camping and meeting point will again be at the south end of Kelly's Lane from Friday night 7th onwards.2WD access is available to the camping area. A drop chute toilet is also within walking distance from the camp.
The works include, "if the weather is more favorable" this time:
Kelly's Hut
-Repair replace roofing and ridge capping sheets
-Repair / Rebuild / resheet chiminey using timber and metal
-Complete stone work for new fire place
-Replace timber post / rail inside overhang
-Install VHCHA aluminium book holder
-General tidy upMc Michaels Hut
-General tidy up if required
-Install VHCHA aluminium book holderGuy's Hut
-Carry in concrete and erect signage
-Install VHCHA aluminium book holder
-General tidy upMoroka and Horseyard Yard Flat Huts works to be confirmed.

- Hand tools, shovels, axe, chainsaw, hammers, spade, bucket
-Cordless drills, crow bars, leather gloves, pinch bars, back packs for an approximate 4 kilometer return trip (easy walk)A reminder to members, as these huts are in an elevated area of the high country, weather changes come in fast. All members should consider bringing both bathers and snow clothes. Lets hope for just "nice" weather for our trip !!
Parks Ranger and VHCHA member wayne McCallum will be working (Parks Vic work) on this weekend but will be available for some supervision duties periodly during the weekend.
