Lerderderg State Park lies to the west of Melbourne.  It nestles in amongst the hills of the upper Lerderderg River – gold was discovered there in 1854.  Throughout the forest messmate and stringy barks dominate the scene, while many other smaller wattles and shrubs vie for a position.  Animal life is never startling but one may see koalas, grey kangaroos and swamp wallabie

The RRCV is coordinating FWDV Rural Response Group Bushfire Recovery activities in the Healesville – Narbethong – Marysville area. We will be helping people in this area to cleanup and rebuild after the disastrous fires in February. We are seeking help with these activities on either or both days.

This trip has become a RRCV Queen’s Birthday weekend tradition, not just because the tracks close after this weekend, or that the river levels are coming up after the summer, but because the Howitt High Plains are likely to be dusted with snow.  Two nights under canvas, with the occasional modest cooking fire.
